- Société Française de Coaching : le coaching est « …l’accompagnement de personnes ou d’équipes pour le développement de leurs potentiels, de leurs savoir-faire dans le cadre professionnel ».
- L’International Coaching Federation, quant à elle, le décrit comme « …une relation suivie dans une période définie, qui permet au client d’obtenir des résultats concrets et mesurables dans sa vie personnelle et professionnelle ». L’I.C.F. parle aussi de processus au cours duquel « …le client approfondit ses connaissances et améliore ses performances ».
- Pour l’Association Européenne de Coaching (E.M.C.C.) : « Le coaching est l’accompagnement d’une personne ou d’un groupe de personnes dans la réalisation d’objectifs professionnels ou personnels. Au travers d’une co-construction favorisant l’autonomisation, coach et client forment un partenariat dynamique grâce auquel le client peut lever des obstacles à son développement, faire émerger de nouvelles ressources et compétences, améliorer sa performance et développer son potentiel ».
- Enfin le Comité d’Éthique du Coaching et le Syndicat Français des Acteurs Professionnels du Coaching le définissent ainsi : « Le coaching en tant que métier aussi bien que discipline des sciences humaines et sociales consiste à accompagner des individus des équipes et des organisations dans la définition et l’atteinte de leurs objectifs d’évolution de développement, de décision, de transformation et de réalisation dans le respect des principes éthiques du « Comité d’Éthique du Coaching » et notamment le respect des droits des individus ».
