Depuis aussi longtemps que je me souvienne, j’ai toujours aimé écouter les récits de vie des gens.
Ceux que je croise dans mon quotidien, mes clients pendant 20 ans, mais aussi les artistes et personnalités du monde entier qui ont éveillé ma curiosité par une oeuvre, une action ou tout un parcours.
D’abord via des livres, puis des documentaires, des interviews et, depuis plus de 25 ans, avec internet et l’accès instantané et universel qu’il offre, mon envie d’écouter les gens parler d’eux, de leurs travail, de leur passion, de leurs besoins s’est accrue.
Je n’avais pas imaginé que cet attrait pour les témoignages pourrait, un jour, être mis profit professionnellement.
C’est devenu une évidence au moment où j’ai fait l’auto-supervision de ma première séance de coaching avec une “vraie“ cliente, dans le cadre de ma formation de coach professionnel.
La fluidité, le confort ressenti, avoir pu être à l’écoute, sans jugement, présent pour elle à 100%, avec le sentiment d’être à ma place en face d’elle, tout cela fut tellement rassurant, c’était comme une validation.
J’en suis même venu à me dire : et si, finalement, j’avais passé toute une partie ma vie à m’entraîner (sans le savoir à l’époque) à développer une qualité très utile une fois devenu coach ?
Bien évidemment, le travail du coach est loin de se résumer à l’écoute de ses clients mais je pense qu’un coach qui “sait“ écouter (y compris les silences) s’empêche notamment de tomber dans le piège de l’interprétation et de la suggestion qui le rendent contrôlant sur le processus du client.
